The Right Laser for Gynecology
For more than 15 years, Fotona has been at the forefront of laser gynecology research, developing revolutionary, minimally invasive gynecology treatments based on the industry’s most highly effective, gold-standard Er:YAG and Nd:YAG laser wavelengths. The culmination of this extensive research & development activity is the FotonaSmooth™ platform, a line of non-contact, non-invasive gynecological lasers that provide unrivaled treatment results with unmatched ease of use, safety and efficiency.
Gold Standard Er:YAG with New SMOOTH Mode
Fotona’s Er:YAG laser technology is ideal for the treatment of lesions of the uterine neck and vagina, as well as HPV lesions, pigmentations and neoplasias. Because of its unique disinfecting capability, it even promotes faster healing of infected tissue.
Fotona's high-performance Er:YAG laser ablates precisely without heating surrounding tissue. Er:YAG energy is highly absorbed in water – the main target chromophore in skin treatments – and can thus vaporize the skin with micron-level precision and very little thermal conduction.
Fotona’s patented VSP (Variable Square Pulse) technology enables the Er:YAG laser to be accurately tuned from warm to “cold” ablation as well as non-ablative thermal ratios. This allows for a wide range of non-ablative treatment possibilities, including Fotona's revolutionary IntimaLase®, IncontiLase® and RenovaLase® treatments based on proprietary SMOOTH mode settings.
Engineered for Ease of Use
Achieve perfection in clinical results while enjoying unmatched speed and efficiency: the FotonaSmooth™ XS features an intuitive, easy-to-use-interface with customizable memory presets to help you work faster and more effectively. Professionally designed gynecological handpieces, easy-to-select operating modes and many other advanced features further enhance the precision and performance of each procedure for optimal clinical efficacy and unrivalled control during treatments.
FotonaSmooth™ XS Features:
- Unrivalled Ablation and Coagulation Control
- Fotona's SMOOTH Mode Technology
- VSP (Variable Square Pulse) Technology
- Wireless footswitch*
* optional feature
Patented Solutions for Ultimate Safety and Precision
The FotonaSmooth XS's simple controls, innovative safety features and easy-to-grasp treatment modes will make your work easier, safer and more efficient. Fotona's proprietary VSP (Variable Square Pulse) technology creates precisely controlled sequences of square-shaped pulses to maximize safety by eliminating unnecessary laser energy absorption into body tissues. Square-shaped laser pulses avoid the slow rise, and even longer drop-off in pulse power associated with standard laser technologies, which ensures ultimate performance and patient comfort during all treatments.
EFC (Energy Feedback Control) technology, one of Fotona’s pioneering safety features, actively checks and controls each individual pulse’s energy level to ensure that the output energy is exactly matched for safe and effective treatment. These and other core technologies in the FotonaSmooth XS give you the peace of mind that the parameters you select are being safely and precisely delivered by the system throughout the duration on each treatment, thereby providing unmatched safety and confidence in your system's ability.
Advanced Handpiece Technology
Fotona's specially designed, innovative handpiece technology optimizes the delivery of safe, effective and precisely controlled laser pulses to the treatment area.
Key Treatments
Accessories
G-Runner™ Scanner
The G-runner™ scanner is designed for automatic, precise and carefully controlled delivery of laser energy to the vaginal canal for more homogenous coverage of the vaginal mucosa. With procedure-guiding presets and touch control, G-runner eliminates errors and improves patient and operator comfort with all SMOOTH intravaginal procedures.
R09-2G
This multi-functional, collimated Er:YAG handpiece with a 4 mm spot size comes with a detachable and sterilizable tube specifically for gynecological procedures.
Wireless Footswitch
With the wireless footswitch the laser treatment can be initiated within a 10-meter radius of the Fotona laser system, thereby avoiding an unnecessary tangle of cables on the operating room floor. The wireless footswitch is a perfect complement to your Fotona system, providing more freedom of movement during treatments.
R08-Ti
The R08-Ti straight, surgical Er:YAG handpiece has a 0.45 mm spot size at a focal distance determined by its spacer. It is available with or without a removable air/water spray nozzle.
R11 for Gynecology
This straight Er:YAG handpiece has variable spot sizes from 2 to 7 mm and is designed for use with specialized gynecological adapters for performing minimally invasive gynecological procedures.
G-Set
The G-Set contains a laser speculum and angular + circular golden-mirror adapters for use with the PS03 and R11 handpieces. The G-Set is designed for performing minimally invasive gynecological treatments.
SClear Speculum
The SClear Speculum is a transparent, single-use vaginal speculum designed to be used with G-Set for Fotona’s minimally invasive SMOOTH™ laser gynecology treatments such as IntimaLase®, IncontiLase® and RenovaLase®.

What is VSP?
VSP (Variable Square Pulse) technology is a patented solution for generating square laser pulses for more controlled energy absorption. Pulse durations can be adjusted from 50 us up to 1500 us, depending on the practitioner’s needs. VSP pulse technology minimizes unnecessary laser energy absorption into body tissues and helps to ensure ultimate performance and patient comfort during laser treatments.
What is SMOOTH mode?
SMOOTH mode is a Er:YAG treatment modality that delivers laser energy onto the skin in a fast sequence of low-fluence laser pulses inside an overall super-long pulse of 200-350 msec. Because SMOOTH pulses are longer than the epidermal TRT, the effect of SMOOTH mode is gentle coagulative heating of the skin without any significant ablation of the epidermis.
What is EFC?
EFC (Energy Feedback Control) technology is a core safety feature which actively monitors each individual pulse’s energy level to ensure that the output energy is exactly matched to the practitioner’s chosen parameters throughout the duration of each treatment session.
