SULTARC – Education and research center for the use of laser technology in MENA
17 March 2010
The primary focus of this training and research center, which is sponsored by the academic division of Light Care International, is effective sharing of knowledge in medical laser technology in the Middle East, North Africa and further afield (via clinical education, research and the establishment of safety standards and guidelines). The aim of this state-of-the-art regional training and research center, at the University of Sharjah, is to provide health care practitioners with medical, technical and scientific knowledge in the field of lasers and their application in medicine and dentistry.
SULTARC's clinical education courses (specially designed for dentistry, aesthetics or surgery) last for a few days and are led by qualified laser specialists, clinicians and internationally acclaimed visiting experts. These practitioners are experienced in the use of multiple laser systems and are authorized by the Laser and Health Academy and the University of Sharjah to educate in the different areas of medical laser applications and give practical demonstrations of the different laser techniques and procedures. The first SULTARC international dental laser course "Laser Dentistry for General Practice", which took place from 12th - 14th March 2010, was a great success. This 3-day course, led by 8 lecturers and educating 26 dental practitioners, focused on all aspects of laser-assisted dentistry. The success of the opening course marks the beginning of a wide and effective sharing of medical laser knowledge and research, or, as Dr. Matjaz Lukac, chairman of the Laser and Health Academy, put it: "SULTARC represents a new venue for the promotion and development of evidence-based laser medicine." Future courses will also cover the aesthetics and surgery fields of medicine, so be sure to check out the SULTARC website.
